Designed for high resolution and sharpness, this lens corrects a wide range of spherical and chromatic aberrations. The constant f/2.8 aperture ensures consistent performance and excellent control over depth of field.
Nano AR Coating reduces reflections, flare, and ghosting, improving contrast and color in bright conditions. The rounded 11-blade diaphragm produces pleasing, circular bokeh.
- Three aspherical elements, including one XA element, minimize distortion, coma, and other aberrations. Four ED elements and two Super ED elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations, improving clarity and color fidelity.
Reliable Autofocus and Image Stabilization
A double-linear and ring Super Sonic wave Motor system delivers fast, precise autofocus for stills and video. The floating elements maintain image quality even at the 3.15′ minimum focusing distance with 0.25x magnification.
Three focus hold buttons and a focus range limiter provide quick control while shooting. Optical SteadyShot stabilization minimizes camera shake for sharper results at slower shutter speeds. You can combine it with in-body stabilization for even better performance.
- The OSS Mode switch offers Mode 1 for general shooting and Mode 2 for panning.
Professional Build and Intuitive Handling
The dust- and moisture-sealed body supports shooting in challenging weather. A fluorine coating on the front element repels dust, smudges, and moisture.
The removable, rotating tripod mount allows quick switching between horizontal and vertical orientations. The included petal-shaped hood prevents flaring and has a filter access window for quick adjustments.
The lens is also compatible with Sony’s optional 1.4x and 2x teleconverters, extending the reach to 280mm or 400mm.
