Advanced Optical Performance
Canon includes one fluorite element and five UD glass elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing. Additionally, an Air Sphere Coating (ASC) minimizes flare and ghosting, ensuring better contrast and light transmission in bright or backlit conditions.
Stabilization and Autofocus
The built-in Optical Image Stabilizer corrects up to 3.5 stops of camera shake, making handheld shooting easier in low light. The lens offers two IS modes: standard for general use and a panning mode for moving subjects.
For autofocus, Canon equips this lens with a ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM) and an internal focusing system. Together with optimized algorithms, they provide fast, quiet, and accurate focusing. You can also use full-time manual focus override for precision control.
Handling and Features
The focus limiter switch allows you to restrict focusing to two ranges: 3.9 ft–infinity or 8.2 ft–infinity, which speeds up focusing in specific situations. A rounded eight-blade diaphragm improves background blur, creating smooth and pleasing bokeh.
Canon also includes a removable rotating tripod collar, making tripod or monopod use more stable and flexible. In addition, the lens is compatible with EF 1.4x and EF 2x teleconverters, extending its reach for wildlife and sports photography.
