Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Overview
The Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lens is a fast, wide-angle prime designed for Nikon F mount cameras. With its advanced optical design and strong build, this lens delivers exceptional sharpness, contrast, and clarity. It is ideal for landscape, interior, architecture, and astrophotography, while the bright f/1.4 aperture makes it perfect for low-light shooting.
Optical Design
Sigma engineered this lens with 15 elements in 11 groups. It includes two FLD, five SLD, and two aspherical elements. This combination reduces chromatic and spherical aberrations, controls distortion, and limits vignetting. A Super Multi-Layer Coating improves contrast and color accuracy while reducing flare and ghosting.
Performance in Low Light
The fast f/1.4 aperture allows creative control over depth of field and ensures reliable results in dim conditions. Photographers can capture sharp images with smooth background blur, making this lens suitable for both artistic and practical applications.
Focusing System
The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) delivers fast, smooth, and nearly silent autofocus. Sigma’s optimized AF algorithm ensures precise and consistent performance. Photographers can switch to full-time manual focus simply by rotating the focus ring. The lens focuses as close as 10.9″, offering flexibility for wide-angle close-ups.
Build Quality and Durability
The barrel is crafted from Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, ensuring reliability in varied temperatures. A brass bayonet mount enhances durability and provides secure, accurate attachment to the camera. The fixed petal-shaped hood reduces flare and protects the front element.
Additional Features
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm for beautiful bokeh
Compatible with Sigma USB Dock for firmware updates and custom adjustments
Designed for FX-format Nikon F DSLRs (30mm equivalent on DX models)
