A compact blend of Sony’s Cinema Line innovations, α-series still-image quality, and AI-powered recognition technology, the Sony a6700 Mirrorless Camera gives creators powerful and versatile imaging tools. Powered by a 26.0MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor and the BIONZ XR processor, it delivers both speed and clarity while remaining lighter than its predecessor. This portable design enables 11 fps continuous stills capture and UHD 4K video oversampled from 6K, making it a true multi-tool for ambitious content creators.

26.0MP Exmor R CMOS Sensor and BIONZ XR Processor

The Sony a6700 uses a 26MP APS-C Exmor R CMOS sensor paired with the BIONZ XR processor, a system first introduced in the FX30 Cinema Camera. Together, they deliver 10-bit UHD 4K video at up to 120 fps, bursts of up to 59 compressed raw stills, and 11 fps continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking.

Sony designed the back-illuminated sensor structure to improve resolution without sacrificing sensitivity. With an ISO range of 100–32000 (expandable to 50–102400 for stills), the camera offers excellent low-light performance, minimal noise, and more than 14 stops of dynamic range.

Cinematic Video in UHD 4K

The a6700 brings professional video features from Sony’s Cinema Line into a compact body.

Full pixel readout from the 6K sensor produces UHD 4K video with reduced moiré and aliasing.
Record at up to 120p in 4K and 240p in Full HD, with 10-bit 4:2:2 support in XAVC HS and XAVC S-I formats.
Capture over 2 hours at 4K30p or 40+ minutes at 4K60p on a 128GB card.
Slow & Quick mode (1–120 fps in 4K) adds flexibility for time-lapse, slow-motion, or fast-motion effects.

Color tools include S-Cinetone for cinematic tones, S-Log3 and S-Gamut3.Cine for wide grading latitude, and Creative Looks for instant mood presets. Users can also load custom LUTs for monitoring or applying specific looks in-camera.

AI-Powered Autofocus and Image Stabilization

The dedicated AI Processing Unit enhances autofocus and stabilization. The camera offers:

759 phase-detection points (stills) and 495 points (video), covering 93% of the frame.
Real-time subject recognition, tracking, and Eye AF.
Focus bracketing for up to 299 sequential images.
Accurate AF in low light down to EV -3.0.
Tools such as focus breathing compensation, AF assist, focus mapping, and peaking.

For vloggers, AI framing automatically tracks and crops subjects to maintain strong composition—adjustable by speed and sensitivity.

Vlog-Friendly AI-Enhanced Framing

Additionally, the AI Processing Unit recognizes and tracks subjects when recording video, seamlessly auto-cropping to maintain the subject in a prominent position in the frame and lending ease to otherwise difficult camerawork. This tracking can be custom located within the frame and adjusted for speed and sensitivity, all at the touch of a finger.

Image Stabilization

The camera’s pixel-level 5-axis optical image stabilization system, which compensates for five different types of camera shake encountered during handheld shooting of stills and video, is algorithmically optimized for precision detection and control down to a single pixel. The AI Processing Unit also improves communication between the body and the lens, providing more stable framing before shooting. This allows users to confidently use any lens, even adapted lenses, for critical imaging without encountering blur from camera shake.

Advanced Rendering

Stills shooters benefit from multiple file formats, including HEIF (4:2:0 and 4:2:2), compressed, and lossless compressed RAW. Creative Looks are available for both photos and video, with eight adjustable parameters for full customization.

The AI processor improves auto exposure reliability by 20% compared to the a6600, adjusting intelligently for skin tone, backlit subjects, and white balance. A Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) mode ensures accurate 10-bit stills playback on supported displays.

Body Design and Connectivity

The a6700’s compact body is built for creators:

- A front command dial improves control and speed.
- USB-C output with UVC/UAC support enables direct 4K or Full HD streaming.
- Wi-Fi 2.4/5 GHz plus the Creators’ Cloud app supports remote control, file sharing, and cloud collaboration.
