ZEISS Optical Design
This lens follows the ZEISS Tessar optical concept with 12 elements in 10 groups. The design reduces distortion, chromatic aberrations, and flare while keeping the lens small. A constant f/4 aperture delivers steady performance throughout the zoom range. It also offers better control over depth of field for selective focus.
- In addition, ZEISS T anti-reflective coatings* improve clarity, contrast, and color fidelity by minimizing reflections. One extra-low dispersion element reduces chromatic aberrations for more accurate color. Furthermore, five aspherical elements correct astigmatism, field curvature, and other distortions. A rounded seven-blade diaphragm creates smooth and natural bokeh.
Autofocus, OSS, and Design
The built-in Optical SteadyShot stabilization reduces camera shake for sharper handheld images. When combined with in-body stabilization from select Sony cameras, results improve even further.
The linear AF motor and internal focusing design deliver fast, precise, and silent autofocus, which is excellent for both photos and video. In addition, the dust- and moisture-sealed body increases reliability in challenging conditions. Rubberized control rings provide a secure grip, even in cold weather.
