The Canon EOS C50 Cinema Camera is a compact full-frame Cinema EOS camera designed for professional filmmaking, video production, and hybrid creative workflows. Featuring a newly developed 7K full-frame CMOS sensor, Canon RF mount, 3:2 Open Gate recording, 7K 60p Cinema RAW Light, and 4K 120p recording, the EOS C50 combines high-end imaging capabilities with a compact and flexible body.

Canon EOS C50 Full-Frame Cinema Camera

The Canon EOS C50 Cinema Camera delivers a professional cinema workflow in a compact camera body. Its full-frame sensor provides high resolution, wide dynamic range, and flexible sensor modes for different production requirements.

The camera supports Full Frame 3:2 Open Gate recording, allowing filmmakers to capture the full sensor area and reframe footage during post-production for different aspect ratios and delivery formats.

7K Full-Frame CMOS Sensor

The EOS C50 features a newly developed 7K full-frame CMOS sensor with approximately 34.2 megapixels of total resolution. The full-frame sensor is designed to provide detailed images, low noise, and flexibility across a wide range of lighting conditions.

In Full Frame mode, Canon Log 2 provides a dynamic range of 15+ stops at a base sensitivity of ISO 800, giving filmmakers significant flexibility for exposure and color grading.

7K Cinema RAW Light and 4K 120p Recording

The Canon EOS C50 supports internal 12-bit Cinema RAW Light recording at up to 7K 60p. It also supports high-frame-rate recording up to 4K 120p and 2K high-frame-rate recording for slow-motion applications.

For production workflows that require manageable file sizes, the camera also supports XF-AVC, XF-AVC S, and XF-HEVC S recording formats.

3:2 Open Gate Recording

The EOS C50 is the first Cinema EOS camera to offer a Full Frame 3:2 Open Gate recording mode. This uses the full dimensions of the sensor and provides additional flexibility when reframing footage for widescreen, vertical, square, or anamorphic projects.

Open Gate recording is particularly useful for filmmakers who need to create multiple deliverables from the same production footage.

Dual Base ISO

The Canon EOS C50 features Dual Base ISO with base sensitivities of ISO 800 and ISO 6400 when using Canon Log 2, helping the camera maintain its dynamic range across different lighting conditions.

This makes the EOS C50 suitable for controlled studio environments as well as challenging low-light production situations.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II

Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II provides advanced autofocus and subject detection across approximately 100% of the sensor area. The system is designed to maintain accurate focus during both standard and high-frame-rate recording.

The camera also supports subject detection for people and animals, providing filmmakers with additional autofocus flexibility when working with moving subjects.

Canon RF Mount

The Canon EOS C50 RF mount provides compatibility with Canon RF, RF-S, and RF Cinema lenses. EF and EF Cinema lenses can also be used with the appropriate EF-RF mount adapter, while PL lenses can be used with Canon’s Mount Adapter PL-RF.

This gives production teams access to a broad range of Canon and compatible professional cinema lenses.

Professional Audio and Connectivity

The EOS C50 includes a detachable top handle with two full-size 3-pin XLR inputs and 48V phantom power. The handle also provides a start/stop recording button and zoom rocker for easier camera operation.

The camera body includes HDMI output, microphone and headphone terminals, USB Type-C, a remote terminal, and a dedicated timecode connection for professional production workflows.

CFexpress and SD Card Recording
