Nikon Z6 Overview

The Nikon Z6 is a versatile full-frame mirrorless camera built as an “all-arounder” in Nikon’s Z system. It pairs a back-illuminated 24.5MP FX sensor with the EXPEED 6 engine to deliver strong low-light performance, fast readout, and smooth stills and video workflows — all in a compact, weather-sealed body.

Nikon Z System

The Z mount has a larger inner diameter and a short 16 mm flange distance. That design lets Nikon make smaller bodies and develop faster, higher-quality lenses (including ultra-fast options). The larger mount also improves data throughput between body and lens for better autofocus and lens performance.

24.5MP FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor and EXPEED 6 Processor

  • 24.5MP FX-format BSI CMOS: excellent low-light sensitivity and cleaner high-ISO results.

  • EXPEED 6 processor: speeds up continuous shooting, image processing, and video handling.

  • Continuous RAW shooting: high burst rates with fast buffer handling (supports up to 12 fps in some modes).

4K UHD Video Recording

  • Records UHD 4K (3840×2160) using full-frame or DX-crop areas at 30/25/24p.

  • Full HD up to 120p for slow-motion.

  • Supports N-Log and 10-bit HDMI output, enabling cinematic workflows and better color grading.

  • Electronic VR and in-camera tools (Focus Peaking, Zebra) help handheld and manual shoots.

  • Audio: built-in stereo mic, external mic input (3.5 mm), and headphone monitoring.

273-Point Phase-Detect AF System

Located on the sensor is an array of 273 phase-detect autofocus points covering 90% of the image area both vertically and horizontally. This provides fast and accurate focusing for both stills and video and with a wide coverage area, subject tracking will work out to near the edges of the frame. Hybrid AF is available for video, which will automatically switch between phase- and contrast-detect systems to provide smooth focus during shooting. Additionally, the latest NIKKOR Z lenses are optimized for silent operation.
