ZEISS Optical Design
Following the ZEISS Distagon concept, the lens uses 12 elements in eight groups to achieve its large f/1.4 aperture. This design also helps reduce vignetting and spherical aberrations.
One Advanced Aspherical (AA) and two aspherical elements minimize astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other distortions. ZEISS T* coatings reduce reflections, flare, and ghosting, improving contrast and color fidelity. The rounded nine-blade diaphragm delivers soft, pleasing bokeh.
Autofocus and Handling
The Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor AF system ensures quick, quiet, and accurate focusing. Internal focusing maintains a consistent length for better balance.
An AF/MF switch on the lens barrel allows fast focus mode changes. The physical aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth, silent operation—ideal for video.
