G Master Resolution and Bokeh
- G Master lenses focus on combining sharpness with beautiful bokeh. This 50mm uses three XA (extreme aspherical) elements to control distortion, astigmatism, field curvature, and other aberrations.
- Nano AR Coating II reduces reflections, flare, and ghosting, enhancing contrast and color in challenging light. The floating focus mechanism ensures consistent sharpness across the entire focusing range.
- Its rounded 11-blade diaphragm produces soft, circular bokeh that enhances subject isolation.
Exceptional Speed and Versatility
The 50mm focal length is ideal for portraits, landscapes, lifestyle shots, and architecture. The f/1.2 aperture creates an extremely shallow depth of field, helping subjects stand out against blurred backgrounds.
Beyond creative control, the bright aperture allows faster shutter speeds in low light and supports handheld shooting.
Fast and Precise AF
- Four XD Linear Motors provide quick, quiet, and accurate AF with excellent subject tracking. This design also enables natural, responsive manual focus via Linear Response control.
- The internal focusing system keeps the lens length consistent and enhances handling. A minimum focusing distance of 1.3 ft and 0.17x magnification enable dynamic close-ups with smooth background separation.
Compact and Durable Design
Despite its wide aperture and advanced optics, the lens remains compact at 3.4 × 4.4 inches and 1.7 lb. Two focus hold buttons on the barrel offer quick access to custom settings.
The physical aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth, silent operation in video work. Dust- and moisture-resistant construction ensures reliability in harsh environments, while rubberized control rings improve grip in cold conditions. A fluorine-coated front element repels dust, moisture, and fingerprints for easy cleaning.
