The Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM is a short telephoto prime lens built for portraits. Its fast f/1.4 aperture provides outstanding subject isolation and excellent performance in low-light conditions. On APS-C cameras, it delivers a 136mm equivalent focal length, ideal for tighter framing.

Advanced Optical Design

Canon integrates one glass-molded aspherical element to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion. As a result, images show improved sharpness and clarity. In addition, each element features an Air Sphere Coating (ASC) to suppress flare and ghosting, ensuring strong contrast and faithful colors even in backlit conditions.

Image Stabilization and Autofocus

The lens includes a four-stop Optical Image Stabilizer, which minimizes camera shake during handheld shooting. This system ensures sharper images in low light or slower shutter speeds.

For focus, Canon equips the lens with a ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), a high-speed CPU, and optimized algorithms. Together, they deliver fast, quiet, and precise autofocus. Moreover, photographers can switch instantly to full-time manual focus override for greater control.
