Canon EOS R Overview

The Canon R marks the first step in Canon’s mirrorless evolution. It combines a new RF lens mount with a 30.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor to create a powerful multimedia system. The DIGIC 8 processor boosts performance, offering ISO up to 40,000, 8 fps continuous shooting, and UHD 4K30 video recording.

30.3MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 8 Image Processor

A large 30.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor is featured and serves as an ideal balance between high-resolution output, low-light performance, and high-speed capabilities. When paired with the DIGIC 8 image processor, the Canon R affords a native sensitivity range of ISO 100-40000, which can be expanded to ISO 50-102400 for working in a variety of lighting conditions. Quick continuous shooting to 8 fps is also supported for photographing moving subjects.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF

The Dual Pixel CMOS AF system delivers fast and precise focus with 5655 selectable points. It performs reliably in low light down to EV -6. Tracking moving subjects is smooth, whether shooting stills or 4K video. Touch AF makes focus changes intuitive, while Movie Digital IS reduces camera shake.

UHD 4K Video Recording and Canon Log Gamma

Record UHD 4K video at 30 fps or Full HD at 60 fps. For slow motion, capture HD at 120 fps. Canon Log Gamma provides 12 stops of dynamic range, ideal for color grading. Clean 10-bit 4:2:2 output via HDMI ensures professional-quality footage.

Dual Pixel RAW

With Dual Pixel RAW, you can fine-tune focus, shift bokeh, and minimize ghosting in post-production using Canon’s software.

Body Design

  • The EOS R is built tough with a magnesium alloy body and weather sealing for dust and moisture resistance. The 3.69m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and 3.15″ vari-angle touchscreen LCD give flexibility in any shooting angle. A customizable Multi-Function Bar and top LCD screen make controls fast and intuitive.

  • Digital Lens Optimizer: Automatically reduces optical aberrations such as diffraction, delivering sharper and cleaner images straight from the camera.

  • Multi-Shot Noise Reduction: Captures four sequential exposures and blends them in-camera to produce smoother tones and significantly lower noise—ideal for long-exposure photography.

  • Compact RAW (C-RAW / .CR3): Save files in Canon’s efficient C-RAW format for smaller file sizes without sacrificing image quality, ensuring faster post-processing.
