Canon R5 Overview

High-Resolution Versatility

The Canon EOS R5 is built for professionals who need resolution, speed, and advanced video. It features a 45MP full-frame CMOS sensor, 8K raw video, and up to 12 fps shooting with the mechanical shutter. It is also the first EOS camera with 5-axis in-body image stabilization.

45MP Full-Frame Sensor and DIGIC X Processor

The new 45MP sensor delivers detailed stills and video. The DIGIC X processor adds speed and efficiency. ISO ranges from 100–51200, expandable to 102400, making it ideal for low light. Capture action with 12 fps using the mechanical shutter or 20 fps in silent electronic mode.

8K30 Raw and 4K120 Video Recording

Shoot internal 8K raw video at 30 fps, or 4K video up to 120 fps with 10-bit 4:2:2 and Canon Log. HDR-PQ is supported, and the HDMI port outputs clean 4K up to 60 fps. Both All-I and IPB compression options are available. Dual Pixel CMOS AF works even in 8K recording.

HDMI 8K Raw Output to Atomos Ninja V+

Firmware 1.4.0 adds support for 8K30 10-bit ProRes raw recording with Atomos Ninja V+.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II

The updated AF system includes 1053 points covering nearly 100% of the frame. Focus is fast, smooth, and accurate for stills and video. Touch AF allows intuitive focus changes. Deep Learning enhances subject tracking for people and animals, with refined eye, face, and head detection.

Sensor-Shift Image Stabilizer

For the first time in EOS cameras, 5-axis IBIS delivers up to 8 stops of stabilization. It works with both RF and EF lenses to reduce camera shake.

IBIS High Resolution 400MP Files

Using the Canon R5with firmware 1.8.1 or later, the IBIS High Resolution shot mode can create 400 megapixel (approx.) files in-camera, without the need for external software. This feature can be used for some specific situations when a high-resolution file with fine detail is required. Examples include art reproduction and building signage.
