DJI Mobile 8 Overview
Accurately track subjects while maintaining stable smartphone footage with the DJI Osmo Mobile 8 Smartphone Gimbal. The updated gimbal stabilizer offers a Multifunctional Module and ActiveTrack 7.0 technology. It includes a magnetic phone clamp that supports smartphones up to 3.3″ wide in a fast mounting interface, a built-in extension arm and tripod, as well as the OM Multifunctional Module for improved pets and humans tracking technology, gesture control, and a fill light. Other updates include direct smartphone connection with support for Apple DockKit, a USB-C output for charging your camera, and a counterweight mounting hole for adding an optional counterweight.
Quick-Launching Device
The Osmo Mobile 8 sets up quickly by unfolding it and attaching your smartphone via the magnetic clamp to begin shooting. A built-in intelligent sensor and automatic alignment detect your phone and adjust the gimbal accordingly for optimal balance.
There’s no need to remove your phone from its case because the upgraded clamp supports phones measuring up to 3.3″ wide and weighing up to 10.6 oz.
iPhone users can also use the separately available DJI OM Magnetic quick release mount to skip the phone clamp to streamline their setup process.
Multifunctional Module
The Multifunctional Module adds tracking in your smartphone’s native camera app or third-party camera apps without requiring the Mimo app. Attaching the module also unlocks gesture control.An integrated fill light on the module can enhance your low-light shooting, with eight brightness levels and adjustable color temperature. Bluetooth built into the module can connect up to two DJI Mic 3, Mic 2, or Mini transmitters to the gimbal without requiring a receiver unit.
Gesture Control
- Show your palm to the Multifunctional Module’s sensor, and intelligent tracking will start/stop instantly
- Make a “V” with your fingers to take a photo or start/stop recording
- A double “L” gesture adjusts your framing, no matter where you shift in the frame
3-Axis Stabilization and ActiveTrack 7.0
The Osmo Mobile 8 features improved stability over longer distances with the updated ActiveTrack 7.0, which can automatically track body shapes to track human or pet subjects without needing to make a manual selection. Track subjects even after they leave the frame using automatic zooming and gimbal movements for continuous filming.
Smart Capture detects multiple subjects and allows you to effortlessly switch by tapping on your phone’s screen. Smooth tracking pinpoints your preferred subject, whether a person or family pet, and maintains continuous tracking regardless of movement or obstruction. Embedded stabilization technology creates shots free of shaking or distortion due to your terrain.
Dual-Lens Boost
The dual-lens boost function takes advantage of both wide-angle and telephoto smartphone lenses teaming up to track fast-moving subjects across a larger area. Even if your subject moves out of frame, the Mimo app automatically brings them back into frame.

Battery Life and Phone Charging
An integrated rechargeable battery keeps the Mobile 8 running for 10 hours at a time. Once depleted, it can be recharged in 2.5 hours using the included power cable and USB-C port. When the Multifunctional Module’s intelligent tracking is enabled, the gimbal’s runtime is reduced to five hours. When the fill light is set to maximum brightness, the runtime is reduced to four hours. The gimbal’s USB-C port can also be used as a power output that charges your smartphone when the gimbal is powered off.
Intelligent Features
Besides the usual DJI pan/tilt follow modes and SpinShot, the Osmo Mobile 8 also offers intelligent shooting modes for expanded viewing. You can utilize:
- Time-Lapse
- Motion-Lapse
- Hyper-Lapse to blend time seamlessly
- Use three different panorama modes to capture wide expanses
- Stretch and compress your video using DynamicZoom and Move In or Move Out modes
Fill Light
The multifunctional module features a built-in fill light that features eight levels of brightness and eight color temperature settings. They are all easily adjusted with a single turn of the side wheel. Ensure clear footage, whether you’re shooting on a rainy day or live streaming in low light.
