24.2MP APS-C Exmor CMOS Sensor and BIONZ X Processor
The 24.2MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor captures smooth, detailed images with minimal noise. ISO ranges from 100–32000 and expands to 102400 for low light. A copper wiring design and advanced LSI improve light capture, reduce noise, and speed up readout. Paired with the BIONZ X processor, the system enables 11 fps continuous shooting with AF/AE or 8 fps with silent shutter. It also supports 14-bit RAW output for wide tonal range.
UHD 4K Video Recording in XAVC S Format
- The a6400 records UHD 4K up to 30 fps using the full sensor width and 100Mbps XAVC S codec. Oversampled 6K capture produces detailed, moiré-free 4K footage. Uncompressed HDMI output provides clean 4:2:2 recording with an external device. S-Log2, S-Log3, and HLG profiles give up to 14 stops of dynamic range for flexible grading. Interval shooting supports time-lapse creation, while S&Q mode captures Full HD between 1–120 fps for slow motion or quick motion effects. Users can also grab 8MP stills directly from 4K video playback.
4D FOCUS
The hybrid AF system uses 425 phase-detection and 425 contrast-detection points across the frame. Autofocus locks in as fast as 0.02 seconds. Real-time Eye AF tracks human or animal eyes with precision, for both stills and video. Real-time Tracking follows moving subjects reliably. Lock-on AF, Expand Flexible Spot, and Focus Magnifier add further focus control. Manual focus users benefit from peaking highlights for sharp results.
Body Design and Connectivity
The Tru-Finder 2.36m-dot OLED EVF provides bright, high-resolution viewing. A 3.0″ 921k-dot LCD tilts 180° up and 74° down, making it vlog-friendly and useful for high or low shooting angles. Touchscreen controls include Touch Focus, Touch Tracking, and Touchpad AF. The camera supports an external mic via the 3.5mm port.
The NP-FW50 battery delivers around 410 shots with the LCD or 360 with the EVF. USB charging is available for longer sessions. Built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth enable instant sharing, remote control, and location tagging.
