Sony FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G Overview
A Portable, High-Quality Mid-Range Zoom Lens
You get a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture in an easy-to-carry body with the Sony FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G Lens. This versatile mid-range zoom excels in everyday mobility. It delivers outstanding image quality for both stills and video, with high resolution and smooth bokeh.
Image Quality and Optical Design
The zoom features 16 elements in 13 groups. These optics boost resolution, clarity, and bokeh quality. A constant f/2.8 aperture lets you shoot in dim light and create shallow depth of field. Plus, the 11-blade circular aperture produces large, smooth bokeh.

- Four aspherical elements reduce spherical aberrations and distortion. They also minimize ‘onion ring’ bokeh. Meanwhile, two extra-low dispersion elements cut chromatic aberrations and color fringing. This ensures sharp clarity and accurate colors. You achieve close-up shots easily, with a 7.1″ minimum focus distance and 0.33x maximum magnification.
Autofocus
A redesigned focusing system speeds up performance. It improves close-up shooting and control. Linear motors drive faster, quieter, and more precise AF. This works great for video and stills.

- You track fast-moving subjects effortlessly. The lens supports 120 fps shooting on the Sony a9 III. It maintains full AF even when stopped down. Focus tracking continues during 4K 120p or Full HD 240p slow motion.
Improved Control and Video Capabilities
Video shooters love the updates. The lens supports Dynamic/Active Mode stabilization in compatible cameras. It also enables Breathing Compensation on select cine-line and Alpha models.

- De-click the manual aperture ring for silent operation. Adjust zoom smoothness for your preferred torque. Thus, you gain smooth, professional video control.
Compact, Lightweight, and Robust Design
This f/2.8 lens stays compact and lightweight. It handles diverse scenarios and tough conditions, thanks to weather sealing.
- Use the manual aperture ring for tactile control. De-click it for iris pulls, or lock it in ‘A’ mode for camera control. A programmable focus hold button and focus mode switch simplify operation.
- Dust and moisture resistance protect it in bad weather. A fluorine coating on the front element repels water, oil, and dirt. It cleans easily too. The redesigned lens hood fits sleekly, with a smaller diameter and shorter length.
